South Sinai governor reviews with Russian media delegation the development to tourist destinations

CAIRO – 1 June 2022: Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, met, on Tuesday evening, a Russian media delegation from one of the largest channels and newspapers in Russia, at the governor's office in Sharm El-Sheikh, within the framework of the various meetings to activate and promote tourist destinations in the governorate.

The governor answered all the delegation’s questions and inquiries, which included a review of all tourist destinations in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the extent of the city's readiness in light of its hosting of the climate change conference, according to a statement.

During the meeting, Fouda reviewed the development work being done in preparation for hosting the COP27 climate change conference in November.

That included works to raise efficiency, construct roads and bridges, increase green spaces, establish an environmentally friendly smart city council building, the central park in Sharm El Sheikh, and increase green transportation with an emphasis on ensuring its continuity.

This comes as part of the transformation into a green, environmentally friendly city, in addition to the expansion of the use of natural gas and electricity, and the use of solar energy in all hotels in the governorate.

The governor referred to the development and expansion works at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport to accommodate 10 million tourists each year instead of 7.5 million tourists currently.

The governor also stressed during the meeting that Russia has been a top exporter of tourists to Egypt, and that he hopes the Russian-Ukranian crisis ends soon, so Russian flights resume intensively.
