CAIRO – 12 July 2017: Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Tarek al Qouny discussed Wednesday in a meeting with US envoy to Libya Peter Bodde and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Egypt and Maghreb Affairs Yael Lempert the latest developments in Libya and the possibility of launching a political dialogue bringing together all Libyan parties to resolve pending issues in the Libyan political agreement.

During the meeting, Al Qouny said Egypt pays great attention to reaching a solution to the Libyan crisis and achieving security and stability across the country.

Egypt stands on the same distance from all Libyan parties to proceed with the political process and find a comprehensive solution to the crisis gripping the North African country in a way that preserves its unity and independence, he asserted.

For their part, the two US diplomats underlined that the US and Egypt shared the same vision on the necessity of combating terrorism in Libya for its grave repercussions on the region, as well as keeping bilateral coordination to reach a political settlement to the Libyan conflict.

Furthermore, the two US officials hailed efforts exerted by Egypt to resolve the Libyan crisis, citing the recent meetings held in Cairo by warring Libyan parties.
