CAIRO - 12 March 2022: Rescuers at Alexandria port saved the crew of a Lebanese ship that sank outside the external anchorage of the Mediterranean port on Saturday.

The ship, Ayla, which was carrying 3.9 tons of scrap iron, sent a distress signal to the port, headed by Captain Tarek Shaheen.

The 98-meter long ship had drafted five meters on one of its sides when nine Syrians and an Indian were rescued.

The Public Prosecution Office was notified to investigate and question the ship's crew to determine the cause of its sinking and the extent of environmental pollution.
