Health Ministry: Egypt reports 882 new coronavirus cases, 22 fatalities

CAIRO - 9 March 2022: The Health Ministry said Tuesday night that 882 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country began to 492,774.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 22 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 24,244 .

As many as 912 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 423,135 so far, the spokesman said.

Life will go back to normal after vaccinating 70 percent of the Egyptian population; 40 percent have been jabbed thus far, according to the Ministry of Health.

 

Hossam Hosny, head of the Anti-Coronavirus Scientific Committee, said on Sunday the vaccination reduces the symptoms and contagiousness.

 

Meanwhile, the ministry has begun offering the booster dose to the medical staff, those with chronic diseases, senior citizens, and vaccinated people who has their last jab over six months earlier.

 

The recovery rates at the quarantine hospitals has increased to its first high of 85.7 percent, the ministry said on Saturday.
