Sohag University ranks 400th on Int’l classification of most sustainable universities

CAIRO – 15 December 2021: Sohag University ranked the 400th in the International Classification of the most sustainable universities, among 956 universities worldwide.

 

On Tuesday, the results of the 2021 classification was announced, showing an improvement achieved by Sohag University by jumping 96 positions, as it was in the 496th position last year.

 

President of Sohag University Mostafa Abdel-Khaleq said that the university’s progress in the ranking is due to “the implementation of many sustainability programs and activities that depend on spreading environmental awareness and optimal use of resources in order for Sohag University to continue as an environmentally friendly university, within the framework of Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development.”

 

Hamdi Hassanein, director of the Sustainability Unit at the university and general supervisor of the environmental friendly university competition issue, said that the Sustainability Unit team made great efforts that led to this progress despite the conditions of the Corona pandemic.

 

Hassanein added that the university is aware of the importance of creating a sustainable environment inside the university campus, as it has placed at the forefront that its campus becomes a clean campus and maintains standards of sustainability and green environment such as sustainable buildings, reducing the use of transportation that pollutes the environment, rationalizing energy and water consumption, reducing carbon emissions and noise, safe disposal of waste, in addition to digital transformation to reduce paper use and expansion of renewable energy projects.
