CAIRO – 25 October 2021: Head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announce, Monday the state of emergency all over the country.

In a televised statement, Burhan announce the dissolution of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council along with the government.

He added that some articles of the constitutional document for the transitional period in Sudan will be suspended; however, ‘they will remain committed to the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement”

 

Burhan said that some of the political forces incited to chaos, violence and started to fight amongst each other which threats Sudan’s security. He noted that all these ‘chaos’ lead them to take these announced decisions.

“Will are still committed to the currant transitional process until handing over the authority to a new elected government” Burhan said.

He also explained that a ‘a temporary government of competencies will take responsibly until the upcoming elections 2023’.

Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed earlier Monday deep concern about the developments in Sudan.

In a statement, Aboul Gheit called on all Sudanese parties to fully comply with the constitutional document signed in August 2019 with the participation of the international community and the Arab League, as well as the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement.

An official source in the General Secretariat stated that "there are no problems that cannot be resolved without dialogue”.

The source also called on all parties to respect all decisions and agreements that were agreed upon regarding the transitional period, leading to holding elections on their scheduled dates.

The source also called for refraining from any measures that would disrupt the transitional period or destabilize Sudan.

Army troops have arrested Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Monday and moved him to an unknown place, the Sudanese Ministry of Information said in a statement.

In an earlier statement by the ministry on Thursday, it said that joint armed forces placed Hamdok under house arrest.

The ministry said Hamdok called on Sudanese people in a statement to adhere to peacefulness and rush to streets to defend their revolution.

Joint armed forces also stormed the Sudanese Radio and Television headquarters in Omdurman and detained a number of workers, according to the ministry.

The ministry also noted that the forces closed bridges and blocked internet from mobile phones.
