CAIRO – 15 October 2021: On the 65th anniversary of the substitution of Egyptian pilots at the Suez Canal for foreign ones, after the nationalization of the international waterway on July 26, 1956, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi greeted them on Wednesday.

The president tweeted that the occasion "marks a historic achievement in the record of Egyptian heroism and a saga of the victory of the Egyptian willpower in managing navigation at the Canal. I express appreciation for Suez Canal pilots who have never abandoned their duty even in the darkest circumstances since the canal's nationalization until present. Their strenuous efforts contributed to maintaining the international reputation of the Suez Canal as the most important waterway worldwide."

Egypt’s FY2021/2022 plan aims to increase the revenues of the Suez Canal by 5.6 percent, according to Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said.

El-Said explained in August that the revenues of the Suez Canal will thus rise from LE 93.9 billion in FY20-2021 to LE 99.3 billion in the year of the plan, exceeding the output achieved before the outbreak of the Corona pandemic in FY18/2019.
