Egypt reports 481 new coronavirus cases, 11 fatalities in 24 hours

CAIRO - 13 September 2020: The Health Ministry said 481 new coronavirus cases were detected in Egypt over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 292,957 .


In a statement late Sunday, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 11 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,871.

As many as 651 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 246,726, he added.

The Ministry of Education and Technical Education indicated Sunday that 16 percent (251,675) of school teachers received the two doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine, and that 29 percent (473,401) got the first one.

In August, Spokesperson of the Cabinet Nader Saad said that coronavirus vaccination would be mandatory for everyone involved in the educational process in Egypt. Those include public and private university students, school students aged above 18 years and school teachers.

Equally, Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed indicated in a Cabinet meeting in the same month that the number of public employees who had been vaccinated is 1.3 million (17.3%) out of approximately 7.5 million.
