Somaya Saad to represent Egypt at IAU's Office for Astronomy Outreach for 3 years

CAIRO - 12 August 2021: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that Somaya Saad, former head of the Astronomy Department at the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), was selected to represent Egypt at the International Astronomical Union (IAU)’s Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO) from August 2021 to August 2024.
 
In a statement released Thursday, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar lauded Saad's selection for the post, affirming that NRIAG includes many too-notch scientific, administrative and academic cadres at the local and international levels.
 
The Office for Astronomy Outreach bridges the IAU with the global astronomy community of amateur astronomers, outreach practitioners, educators, communicators, and the general public.
 
The office manages a number of programs through international collaboration to make the science of astronomy accessible to all.
 
The OAO is a joint project of the IAU and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ).
