Egypt’s United Media Services names Nashwa Gad as “Watch IT” new Managing director and CEO

CAIRO – 1 June 2021: Egypt’s United Media Services (UMS) announced, Tuesday appointing Nashwa Gad as Managing director and CEO of the digital platform “Watch IT”.

This announcement comes as part of UMS newly-announced development plan for the media and drama fields.

Nashwa Gad served as Egypt’s and Sudan’s Public Policy Manager at Facebook MENA Office, in addition to handle MENA Connectivity and Accessibility Policy, MENA at Facebook.

Before Facebook, she served as the Assistant Deputy for the Undersecretary, International Relations Division, at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Egypt.

Gad spent over 15 years in the field of internet governance, political economy, cybersecurity, Internet industry, international & regional affairs, dealing with UN agencies and ICT diplomacy.

She Handled multilateral negotiations and engages with UN organizations in drafting strategies and action plans. Conduct and initiate strategic dialogue on bilateral basis. Foster cooperation with the international business community and multinationals. She holds B.Sc. Major Economics English, Minor Computational Socio – Sciences, Cairo University, Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Economics Department.

May 29, UMS group held a press conference Saturday, highlighting its achievements over the past five years, and announced its new development plan for the media and drama fields.

During the conference, the UMS announced a number of decisions, including launching a new Egyptian regional news channel that uses the latest international technological systems to provide Egypt’s regional and local vision for the audience.

The group announced that the aim of the channel is to propose Egypt’s vision not only for discussion, but also opening the door for analysis and criticism.

“The new regional channel will be able to address Arab audience’s interests on the right time, given that it is aimed to be the main source of the latest news in Egypt and the region,” the group said.

The new regional channel’s target audience are: Egyptians, Arabs, all Arabic speakers following up through Nile Sat coverage, as well as Arabic speakers in Europe, U.S., Canada and Australia who follow up on Egypt news via IPTV services.

UMS also announced establishing a fund to support workers and practitioners in media profession, as part of the group’s keenness to maximize investment in human resources.

It also announced that it will offer from 20 to 30 percent of its shares on the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX), as part of its future plans to develop the media content.
