CAIRO - 15 May 2020: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed over the phone with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud the rapid developments in the Palestinian lands, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

This falls within coordination between the two ministers on efforts exerted to prevent further escalations and tensions, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said on Saturday.

During the phone call, the two ministers exchanged viewpoints on means of resolving the matter to restore calm.

Shoukry also posted the Saudi minister on Egypt's efforts and contacts with all parties concerned to reach an immediate ceasefire and stop bloodshed.

They also agreed on continuing coordination and consultation with all parties in the coming period to bring an end to the military escalation in the Gaza Strip, and prevent the deterioration of the situation into a full-scale confrontation, which in turn would have grave repercussions on regional peace.

They also stressed the importance of resuming peace efforts as the right path to reach a two-state solution and retain all the legitimate Palestinian rights to establish an independent state, with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital.
