CAIRO – 11 May 2021: The Indian Coronavirus mutation variant, which was confirmed as more contagious than the original form, has recently been reported to have reached countries in the Middle East region.

“The world is anticipating and concerned as the Indian Coronavirus mutation spreads to other countries,” Health Affairs Adviser to Egyptian President Mohamed Taj el-Din.

Egypt has begun taking measures to prevent the spread of this fierce strain, according to Taj el-Din.

He further called on citizens to adhere to precautionary measures, and prevent gatherings during Eid el-Fitr feast, where family visits are among common customs.

WHO has classified the Indian variant as a “variant of concern,” after massive infection and death rates have hit India, with observers saying the actual numbers are far higher.
