Ramses Railway Station
A Cairo criminal court on Monday sentenced the main defendant in the Ramses Railway Station train accident to 15 years in prison and fined him LE 8.89 million.
This comes about a month after a horrible blaze took place in Cairo's Ramses Railway Station, killing 20 people according to official reports.
The chairmanship of the Egyptian National Railways has been assumed by engineer Ashraf Raslan.
Walid Mordy, a railway employee, said that he, along with his colleagues, managed to save over ten people who caught fire, using water and blankets.
There was an altercation between the driver and the other worker in the station and the train was moving slowly and then accelerated so they could not not catch it, the source said in press remarks.
Official sources said the railcar could not move with such high speed without a driver unless someone had set it to move.
Golf carts will be deployed at the Ramses Railway Station to transport disabled and senior citizens to platforms.
