The Egyptian state has given priority to developing tuberculosis control services through 32 hospitals and 123 chest centers, and they are integrated with hospitals in other sectors such as universities, the army, the police and refugee centers.
Tuberculosis incidence rate in Egypt fell from 15,000 cases per 100,000 people in 2015 to only 11 cases in 2021, said the Egyptian Ministry of Health, marking the World Tuberculosis Day, observed on 24 March each year.
The World Health Organization said in a statement Thursday that 1.5 million people died of tuberculosis in 2020, and that 9.9 million people contracted tuberculosis in 2020.
