Eretria
The UNHCR released a report last week highlighting that Egypt had become the largest host of Sudanese who "sought international protection" since the outbreak of war in mid-April 2023.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed to his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed Egypt's keenness on releasing fishermen held in Eretria as quickly as possible.
The number has reached 50,000 on the Sudanese borders alone, according to the UNHCR.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Monday Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki at Itihadiyah Presidential Palace.
Sisi began a two-day visit to Sudan, during which he met Al-Bashir to discuss bilateral ties. It is Sisi’s first visit to Khartoum since re-elected earlier this year.
The Ethiopian premier's three-day visit comes in the framework of the joint Egyptian-Ethiopian committee which was postponed several times since last December.
