Egypt has strongly condemned a failed coup attempt in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The two-day invitational tournament of 6 teams, including host DRC, South Africa, Morocco, Ethiopia, Senegal and the Benin Republic, kicked on a high note.
Ethiopia said "Tunisia’s historic misstep in advancing the Council’s pronouncement undermines its solemn responsibility as a rotating member of the UNSC on an African seat.”
Mr. Christophe Lutundula said that his talks with the Egyptian side are positive and would help find a necessary solution to the GERD issue.
Both Ministers will hold a session of talks at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, downtown Cairo, the statement said. The meeting will be followed by a press conference.
Egypt expressed its sincere condolences to the government and people of the brotherly Democratic Republic of Congo and to the families of the innocent victims of the terrorist attack in the eastern province of Beni on Sunday.
"Both leaders expressed their commitment to working together so that the DRC can realize its vast potential and continue on a positive trajectory,” the US Department of State said.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi told his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi Wednesday that Egypt and Sudan took the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue to the Security Council because of Ethiopia’s intransigence and attempts to impose a fait accompli.
Both leaders tackled a number of regional and continental files of common interest, especially the upcoming DRC presidency of the African Union (AU) for the year 2021.
