Spain on Tuesday defended holding in prison nearly 500 migrants who arrived in the country by boat.
At least 36 people died in wildfires raging through parched farmlands and forests in Portugal and another three in neighboring Spain on Sunday and Monday.
Spain will maintain its security alert level at 4, one notch below the maximum level which would signal an attack was imminent.
