Aviation Min. establishes passenger building at Sphinx Airport

CAIRO - 11 February 2020: The Ministry of Civil Aviation started implementing a plan to develop Sphinx International Airport by establishing an additional passenger building with a capacity of about 1,000 passengers per hour, according to sources from the ministry.

This comes in line with the strategic goals of Egypt's 2030 vision, which aims to achieve economic development, revitalize tourism, increase passenger and travel traffic and boost development rates in various governorates.

Inaugurated in 2019, the Sphinx International Airport is characterized by its distinguished geographical location that is near to Cairo, Giza and archeological sites.

In December 2019, Sphinx International Airport received the first international flight coming from Jordan, with 104 passengers on board, to operate a new line between Jordan and Giza Governorate.

The total area of the buildings of Sphinx International Airport is estimated at about 26,000 meters, with a construction cost of about LE 300 million. It serves the cities of October 6, and Sheikh Zayed, as well as the governorates of Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Menoufia, and Gharbiya.
