CAIRO-12 March 2021: Zamalek announced on Thursday that they have parted ways with the Portuguese coach, Jaime Pacheco, thanking the manager for his efforts during his second spell with the club.

The White Knights also announced the appointment of the club's former French head coach Patrice Carteron to be Zamalek's new coach.

Carteron coached Zamalek between December 2019 and September 2020, having led the club to win the Egyptian Super Cup and the African Super Cup titles.

He also led Zamalek to the CAF Champions League semis before announcing his departure from the club before Zamalek's match against Raja Casablanca.

Pacheco took over and led Zamalek to the competition's final but they lost the African title to arch-rivals Al Ahly in the dying minutes of the game.

The decision to re-sign Carteron caused much controversy between Zamalek fans and they are divided between supporters and opponents of the decision.

Zamalek suffered a poor run recently under Jaime Pacheco and they are in a difficult situation in the CAF Champions League competition as they are third in the group with only two points after three matches.

In the domestic league, Zamalek are atop of the table with 33 points from 14 matches but they could lose their lead as Al Ahly come second with 27 points from 11 matches.
