CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Another loss hits “White castle” Zamalek, causing the President of Zamalek, Mortada Mansou, to decide to sack the Portuguese coach Augusto Inacio. After several defeats ending on Sunday, the team lost 3-1 to Zimbabwean CAPS United FC during the African Champions’ League group stage.
Ronald Pfumbidzai opened the score at the 31st minute of the game for CAPS United. Zamalek’s Nigerian player Stanley Ohawuchi scored the equalizing goal before the end of the first half.
Soon after, Abbas Amidu put CAPS in the lead at the 76th minute. He also scored on a counter attack after a corner kick against Zamalek. Abbas found himself alone in Zamalek's half and easily scored on Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed El- Shennawy.
Zamalek now needs a miracle to qualify for the next round of the CAF Champions League. They occupy the last place in group B with five points.
Meanwhile, USM Alger is in first place with eight points, Al-Ahly Tripoli is second with also eight points also, and CAPS United is in third with six points. CAPS United gained three points after the Zamalek game.
