CAIRO-29 January 2021: Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy attended Al Ahly’s final training session ahead of the Red Eagles’ journey to Qatar to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The minister was keen to meet the players and motivate them to show their best in the prestigious competition and represent Egyptian football in the best possible manner.
“It was very important to visit the club today in order to support the team before their trip to Qatar. Al Ahly will be representing the entirety of Egyptian football in such a prestigious tournament.” Dr. Ashraf Sobhy said according to the club’s official website.
Al Ahly will take on Al Duhail SC in the first round on 4 February and the winner will face European giants, Bayern Munich, on 8 February.
Al Ahly take part in the competition for the sixth time in the club’s history, with their best achievement coming in 2006 when the Red Devils won the bronze medal.
In 2006, Al Ahly became the first Arab and African club to reach the podium in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Red Devils secured a spot in the competition after defeating arch-rivals, Zamalek, in the CAF Champions League final.
