CAIRO-15 January 2021: Hussein Zaky, former captain of Egyptian Handball national team, praised the team's current captain, Ahmed El Ahmar, saying that he is the Messi of the Egyptian handball.
"Ahmed El Ahmar is one of the best players in the national team and he put his mark on Egyptian handball history. He is Egypt's leading top goalscorer in the World Cup." Zaky said.
Zaky, current head coach of Zamalek, was among the national team squad that finished 4th in World Cup in 2001, which is Egypt's best achievement in the competition's history.
When asked about the comparison between him and El Ahmar, He said "It is like the comparison between Messi and Ronaldo. El Ahmar is the Messi of Egyptian handball and I am more like Ronaldo."
El Ahmar missed Egypt's opening match in the World Cup due to injury and he is expected to make his debut in the competition on Saturday against North Macedonia.
Egypt hosts the competition between 13 and 31 January 2021, with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the competition's history.
