CAIRO-6 January 2021: CAF Champions League defending champions, Al Ahly, defeated Niger’s AS SONIDEP 4-0 on Tuesday night to book a place in the competition’s group stage.
Al Ahly secured their place in the next round after repeating their victory over the Nigerien team as the first leg ended with a 1-0 win for the Red Devils in Niger, thanks to a goal from Aliou Dieng.
Al Ahly opened the score by Taher Mohamed Taher and Walid Soliman doubled the score for the Red Devils before half time.
In the second half, Badr Benoun added the third goal for the home team from the penalty spot while the fourth goal was added by Mahmoud Kahraba, seconds before the final whistle.
The match saw the participation of the team’s defender Saad Samir, who has been sidelined for more than a year due to injury.
“We managed to achieve a positive result, in addition to giving Saad Samir the chance to play after coming back from an injury.” Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane said after the match.
Al Ahly will return on Friday to domestic competitions when they face Ceramica Cleopatra FC on Friday in the Egyptian Premier League.
