CAIRO-2 January 2021: Al Ahly head coach, Pitso Mosimane, revealed that his team’s draw against Wadi Degla on Friday was due to the many players that missed the match for injury.

Al Ahly entered the match without many of their key players, including Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Amr El Souliya, Mahmoud Kahraba, Marwan Mohsen, Mohamed Hany, Ramy Rabia and Akram Tawfik, after testing positive for COVID-19.

“Our team currently has 11 players who are either injured or have tested positive for COVID-19. However, I am not looking for excuses but I was forced to change the formation and play with 4-2-3-1.” Mosimane said after the match.

The Red Devils had many chances to score but they were all stopped by Degla’s in-form goalkeeper, Mohamed Abdel Monsef.

Mosimane added “We didn’t perform well in the final third in today’s game, as we failed to score from the chances that we had. Moreover, I believe that their goalkeeper Mohamed Abdel Monsef is the man of the match.”

Al Ahly will take a rest from the league’s matches as they will face AS SONIDEP in the second leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32, scheduled next Tuesday.

Al Ahly won the first leg in Niger 1-0 thanks to a goal from the team’s Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng.
