Ghazl El Mahalla secure a late victory as EPL football returns to El Mahalla stadium

CAIRO-25 December 2020: Ghazl El Mahalla achieved their first victory in the Egyptian Premier League this season after defeating El Geish 2-1 on Friday.

El Mahalla’s historic cathedral, El Mahalla stadium, hosted a league game for the first time this season after getting the security officials’ approval.

The game started with a moment of silence to honor El Mahalla’s legend Mohamed Fayez, who passed away this week.

The home team opened the score after 9 minutes by Ahmed El Sheikh while the visitors equalized the score by Amr Gamal.

Ahmed Samy secured the victory for El Mahalla after scoring a goal seconds before the final whistle.

Samy’s late goal secured El Mahalla’s first win in the top division since February 2014 when they defeated Al Inttag El Harby and sent his team to the sixth position in the standings, with five points.

El Mahalla’s last campaign in the league was in 2015-2016 when the team failed to achieve a single win and they were relegated to the second division.
