CAIRO-29 November 2020: Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib issued a statement on Sunday to thank Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the state authorities after the impressive image of the CAF Champions League final, held in Cairo on Friday night.
“Al Ahly President Captain Mahmoud El Khatib expresses his gratitude to Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the state authorities for bearing the responsibility as usual, even beyond their capacity, to hold the CAF Champions League Final in Cairo, asserting that the match reflected Egypt’s civilized image, despite the challenges that preceded the match.” Al Ahly statement said.
Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek met in the CAF Champions League final for the first time and the game ended with a 2-1 win for the Red Devils.
Al Ahly statement added “Captain El Khatib also extended his greetings to the Egyptian Armed Forces and police, who have always, bore the heaviest burden in securing the safety of the Egyptian people in all sports tournaments Egypt hosted in the last period.”
Al Ahly’s victory secured the 9th title for the Red Devils who will represent Africa in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The statement said “El Khatib called for strengthening the spirit of friendliness and mutual respect among the members of the sports industry, expressing his categorical rejection to the offenses directed to any party of the game, adding that sport is meant to uphold tolerance not prejudice.”
