CAIRO-18 October 2020: Al Ahly defeated Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg at Mohamed V stadium in Casablanca.
The Red Devils put one foot in the competition final and they aim to secure their progress in the competition when they host Wydad on Friday night at Cairo International stadium.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha gave Al Ahly an early lead after he pounced on a defensive error from Wydad defender Yahya Jabrane to open the score for the Egyptian team.
Mohamed El Shenawy blocked Wydad’s penalty minutes before half-time to save Al Ahly’s lead.
Ali Maaloul added the second goal for the Red Devils from the penalty spot to make the score 2-0.
“The players sticked to the game’s plan and performed very well. I wished to score more goals, as we had several scoring chances during the match” Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane said after the game.
Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib congratulated the players on the victory and praised the players' heroic performance, high spirit and tactical discipline during the match.
Al Ahly delegation touched down in Cairo on Sunday morning to prepare for the reverse game in Cairo, scheduled on Friday night.
