CAIRO-10 September 2020: Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy stated on Wednesday that he wants to finish his career at Al Ahly and he will only leave the Red Devils if he received an offer from Europe and the club accepted it.

“I was brought up at the club and I want to retire at Al Ahly.” El Shenawy told ONTime Sports on Wednesday.

The veteran goalkeeper joined Al Ahly when he was 14 and made quick progress through the youth teams towards the first team.

The goalkeeper left the club in 2009 amid lack of first-team playing time and he joined El Geish for three seasons and then he moved to Petrojet where he proved himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

El Shenawy returned to his childhood club, Al Ahly, in 2016 as the team’s second-choice goalkeeper but two years later, he emerged as the club’s first choice goalkeeper after many poor performances from Sherif Ekramy.

El Shenawy joined the Egyptian national team and he was picked as the team’s first choice goalkeeper for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and his official debut came against Uruguay in the national team’s opening game of the competition.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper added “The only thing that would make me think of leaving is receiving an offer from Europe and the club accepted it.”
