CAIRO, 6 September 2020 2020: Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, announced the formation of a committee to investigate the disappearance of some African cups from the headquarters of the Football Association.
"We have formed an expanded legal, supervisory and technical committee to investigate the matter and know all the details and circumstances," the Minister of Sports said on Radio On Sport.
"We seek to reach quick results within hours, and we will issue a report on the results of the investigations as soon as possible," he added.
"The committee will go to the headquarters of the Football Association today to know whether the disappearance of the cups is related to the events of 2013 during the storming of the Football Association and its renewal, and whether there are official records of this, we want to reach the results of today."
Former Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Vice-president and current ONTime Sports broadcaster, Ahmed Shobir, claimed that the Africa Cup of Nations trophy has disappeared from the headquarters of the EFA.
According to Shobir, EFA employees said that former Egypt national team captain Ahmed Hassan kept the trophy with him.
Hassan denied the claim, saying that he kept the trophy at home after winning the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2010 and gave the trophy back to the Egyptian Football Association in 2011.
Egypt were allowed to obtain a special full size replica of the trophy after winning three Africa Cup of Nations titles in a row between 2006 and 2010.
"The EFA board wanted to put trophies and medals in a museum inside the EFA headquarter as the EFA celebrates its 100th anniversary but they were surprised when they found that the trophy was lost." Ahmed Shobir said.
Hossam Hassan was the national team's captain in 2006 and lifted the trophy in front of 80k fans at Cairo stadium.
Ahmed Hassan was the national team's captain in 2008 in Ghana and 2010 in Angola.
