CAIRO-4 September 2020: Zamalek defeated Pyramids 2-0 on Thursday night in the Egyptian league.
Mostafa Mohamed opened the score for Zamalek after 42 minutes as Pyramids goalkeeper El Mahdi Soliman failed to stop Achraf Bencherki's cross and gave the ball to Mostafa who put it easily in the back of the net.
Pyramids had a chance to equalize the score as the referee Mohamed El Hanafy awarded them a penalty after reviewing VAR.
Pyramids winger Mohamed Farouk failed to convert the penalty to keep Zamalek ahead.
Zamalek doubled the score by the substitute striker Kabongo Kasongo who dribbled Pyramids' goalkeeper and added Zamalek's second goal in the game.
Pyramids had many clear chances to score but their strikers failed to break Zamalek defenders and their goalkeeper.
Zamalek reached 48 points and they are leading the race for the second position with 3 points ahead of Pyramids.
Zamalek are 14 points behind the league leaders Al Ahly who face Wadi Degla on Friday night.
