CAIRO – 28 June 2017: Legendary footballer Dennis Bergkamp is considered one of the best players ever to play for U.K. Premier League team Arsenal. After 11 years of retirement he is still inside the hearts of Arsenal fans and the national team of the Netherlands, his homeland.

Like many successful international Dutch players Bergkamp began his career at Ajax Amsterdam, before moving to Italy to play for Internazionale. After a brief unsuccessful spell, Bergkamp transferred to Arsenal, where he made his glory under celebrated manager Arsène Wenger.

Throughout his fruitful career Bergkamp scored many beautiful goals with Arsenal and the Netherlands.

Let’s remember the best three of them:

3 - Netherlands versus Argentina, 1998

It is not easy to play in the World Cup, and let alone to score a goal in the World Cup. But for Bergkamp he made it seem effortless, scoring a beautiful goal in the last minutes of a nail-biting quarter-final.

The ball came from Frank De Boer between Bergkamp and Argentinean defender Roberto Ayala. With one touch, Bergkamp controlled the ball passed from Ayala, securing the second shot as the goal that took the Netherlands forwards to qualify for the 1998 World Cup semi-final.

2- Arsenal versus Newcastle, 2002

Arsenal was playing Newcastle in St. James’ Park when Robert Pires passed the ball to Bergkamp. Without looking towards the goal he maneuvered the ball from the only defender and with only two touches, scored one of the best goals in Arsenal history.

1 - Arsenal versus Leicester City, 1999

That day was Bergkamp’s day, with the Dutch striker scoring his first hat trick with Arsenal in a beautiful match ending on 3-3. In his opinion, Bergkamp’s third goal in the match was his best with Arsenal, he controlled the ball with one touch, changed directions and shot directly into the goal. Martin O’Neil, Leicester City Manager at that time, said after the match that Bergkamp’s goals were “the best hat trick I’ve ever seen.”

As a man who has always hated flying on airplanes, Bergkamp certainly flew after scoring his beautiful goals.
