CAIRO – 25 June 2017: Swiss tennis player Roger Federer won the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany for the ninth time after beating German Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-3.

The 35-year-old did not need more than 53 minutes to beat the 20-year-old German, who is 12th on the world ranking and lost his first final of the season after winning three trophies (Montpellier, Rome, Italy and Munich), according to Super Kora.

After a two-month absence and a surprise elimination from the first round of Stuttgart tournament on June 14, Federer showed that he was well prepared for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam, which is set to start on July 3. Gerry Weber Open is considered a good warm up for Federer as it is played on grass courts, similar to Wimbledon.

"It has been a difficult year, I have spent a lot of time on practice, training and in rehab so it is nice to be back on court," said Federer, who suffered a surprising loss against Tommy Haas in Stuttgart earlier this month, BBC reported.
