England Chinese league
CAIRO – 23 June 2017: As a step forward in improving the quality of its players, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) announced on Thursday that their national under 20 years of age (U20) football team will play in one of the German leagues next year.
Regarded as “ann outstanding idea,” by German Football Association (DFB) Vice president Ronny Zimmermann, told German magazine Kicker, “The planned cooperation with China is well known but that needs to be translated into actions as well."
Zimmermann added, “We'll have to see if anything comes of the idea. A decision will have to have been made by the time the league managers meet, since that's when the fixture list will be confirmed.”
Following an agreement between the Chinese government and DFB in 2016, this plan aims to help boost football in China through Germany’s expertise in coaching and development, reports BBC.
The Chinese national team will play alongside 19 German teams in the Southwest German League, with each opponent receiving €15,000 ($16,745) from the CFA.
In regards to the impact of the Chinese participation in the league, Felix Wiedemann, President of the Southwest German league, commented to The Independent, “It's important to say that there will be no points at stake, so it won't influence the outcome of the league.”
China is trying to improve the football industry by signing great players and developing the youth system by playing against bigger teams.
