CAIRO – 22 June 2017: The Australian football team drew even with Cameroon on Thursday in the second round of the group stages in the Confederations Cup, held in Russia.
The two teams entered the first half looking for a win in order to put them one step closer to qualifying to the next round. Both Cameroon and Australia exchanged several chances to score the opening but the goalkeepers of the two teams did a great job. It was not until the end of the first half on the 45th minute when Cameroon managed to score the first goal with an excellent finisher from Andre Anguissa.
Australia entered the second half looking for an equalizer, with several chances thwarted by Cameroon’s goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa. Australia was then rewarded by a penalty kick in the 59th minute which was then scored by Mark Milligan. The last 30 minutes of the match saw several chances for both sides but neither of them were able to score the second goal.
With this result, Germany is first in Group B with three points. Followed by Chile in second also with three points. Then comes Australia in third with one point and Cameroon in last with one point. Chile and Germany must still play each other Thursday night.
