CAIRO –20 June 2017: FIFA announced the best goal of the Under 20 World Cup 2017 on Tuesday, granting the award to Venezuelan Sergio Cordova for his goal against Mexico on May 26.
Cordova had magnificent ball control, particularly after receiving the ball from Adalberto Penaranda Maestre inside Mexico’s penalty area. The player managed to outplay the goalkeeper before kicking the ball slowly into the net.
Cordova’s goal defeated nine other goals that were shortlisted for the award.
The goal was elected among 140 goals in the tournament which took place in South Korea from May 25 until 11 June. The National English team won the U20 World Cup after defeating Venezuela by 1-0. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the World Cup winning goa, FIFA website reported.
