CAIRO – 12 March 2020: Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, revealed that his team did not deserve to lose to Athletico Madrid on Wednesday night at UEFA Champions League.

Athletico Madrid defeated the Reds 3-2 to reach the competition's quarter-finals after winning the tie 4-2 on aggregate.

"I am completely happy with the performance. It's so difficult to play a side like this. We accept it, of course, but it doesn't feel right tonight." Klopp said after the game.

Liverpool opened the score through Dutch midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum, minutes before half time to equalize the first leg's result.

Both teams failed to add another goal at the regular time to send the game to extra time.

Firmino added Liverpool's second goal at the opening minutes of the first half of extra time but Athletico Madrid's golden substitute, Marcos Llorente, who scored two goals to equalize the score for the visitors.

Athletico striker, Alvaro Morata, scored the winning goal for the visitors minutes before the final whistle to send the title holders out of the competition.

Klopp added, "I realize I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world-class players on the other side."

Liverpool failed to defend the title and they will focus on clinching the league title after being knocked out of the domestic cup competitions as well as UEFA Champions League.
