CAIRO – 6 March 2020: Al-Ahly Swiss manager, Rene Weiler, believes that his team need to do their best to advance to the CAF Champions League semi-final.
“We know that we won the first leg at home in Cairo but the tie is not finalized. We have to come here at the stadium tomorrow afternoon with 100 percent concentration and play our normal football to try and finish off the job.” Weiler said during the pre-game press conference.
Al-Ahly won the first leg 2-0 at Cairo stadium thanks to two goals from the team Tunisian left back, Ali Maaloul.
The opening goal came from a wonderful play between the left flank stars Maaloul and Junior Ajayi who passed the ball to the Tunisian to put him one on one situation with the goalkeeper who failed to stop Maaloul's shot.
The referee awarded the Red Devils a penalty minutes later as Sundowns defender tackled Al Ahly striker, Aliou Bedji.
Al Ahly first choice penalty-taker Maaloul converted the spot kick to make the score 2_0.
Weiler added “The eight teams that are left in the competition are the strongest on the continent and it is not easy against any one of them. Our objective is to win the ninth Champions League for the club.”
Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria hosts the CAF Champions League quarter-finals second leg between Al-Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns.
