CAIRO – 18 June 2017: The president of the Egyptian Fencing Federation, Tamer Zein El Abbedin, discussed with his board the possibility of hosting the upcoming Fencing World Cup in the Baron Empain Palace.
The board plans on using this tournament as a tool to advertise tourism in Egypt. This action can be taken after hosting the previous tournament in the Palace of Salah el Din. However, the board will have to make the decision soon since there are only few months remaining.
The tournament, expected to take place next October, could encourage tourists to come visit Egypt if it is successfully hosted in the Baron Empain Palace.
Egypt is one of the leading countries in the sport, securing first place in the last African fencing tournament held in Egypt near the Cairo Stadium. Egypt won a total of 17 medals with 6 gold, one silver, and 7 bronze.
