Xavi Hernandez, the coach of the Qatari Al Sadd team, showed his desire to coach Barcelona.

"Radio Catalonia" revealed earlier that Eric Abidal, the sports director of Barcelona, had traveled to Qatar to meet with Xavi.

With increasing reports that Xavi was close to Ernesto Valverde’s succession, the coach did not hide that news.

"Certainly, I cannot hide my dream of coaching Barcelona one day," said Xavi.

He added in his statements during the press conference after his team beat Al-Rayyan in the Qatar Cup 4-1, "I dream of coaching Barcelona, but now my focus is only with the Qatari Al-Sadd and the final of the cup."

"My focus is now only on meeting Al-Duhail in the cup final."

About having a session with Abidal, Xavi said: "Abidal is my friend and we talked about many things. I will not be able to mention everything we talked about."

"I could not deny sitting with Abidal, but we talked about a lot of things and he came here to see Osman Dembele," he noted.

"As I mentioned, all my focus now is with Al-Sadd," he stressed.

The Qatari club Al Sadd will play against Al-Duhail next Friday in the Qatar Cup final.

Barcelona legend Xavi started his training career early this season with the Qatari club Al Sadd after retiring at the end of last season.

The 39-year-old Spaniard led the Qatari champions in 26 games, won 14, drew 2 and lost 10, and finished sixth in the Club World Cup.

Barcelona lost the Spanish Super Cup semi-final to Atletico Madrid 3-2 in an exciting meeting that made Valverde's job "at stake", according to Spanish reports.
