CAIRO – 9 January 2020: Barcelona face Atletico Madrid on Thursday night at the Spanish Super Cup semi-final at King Abdullah Sports City.
Both teams will fight for a spot at the final against Real Madrid who defeated Valencia 3-1 on Wednesday.
Barcelona qualified for the tournament as LaLiga champions while the Capital giants secured their spot as they finished second at the league table last season.
“It is a definitive match, not a qualifying round. The one who wins is in the final and we’ll take it as a LaLiga match knowing the difficulty of Atletico.” Valverde said ahead of the game.
Barcelona are missing their veteran goalkeeper, Marc Andre Ter Stegen, and he will be replaced by Barcelona second choice goalkeeper, Norberto Neto.
The two teams met at the first half of the season in Madrid and the Catalan club secured the win thanks to a late goal from Lionel Messi.
The game starts at 9:00 pm.
