Youssef Belaili became the first Algerian to win the award for Best Player in African Clubs Championships after winning more votes than Egypt's Tarek Hamed and Tunisia striker Anis El-Badry.
Belaili , 27, won the award on Tuesday at the CAF ceremony held in Hurghada.
Dennis Onyango, the Ugandan, was the last to win the award, in 2016, before CAF cancelled the award in the last two years.
No Algerian has won the award before, since CAF first presented the award it in 2005, and Mohamed Barakat, the former star of Egypt and Al-Ahly, won it at the time.
Belaili was one of the Tunisian Esperance stars crowned in the 2018-2019 African Champions League after a controversial confrontation with Moroccan Wydad, the outcome of which was the Sports Arbitration Court.
Al-Badri teammate crowned him, while Tarek Hamed, the Zamalek midfielder, won the Confederation.
