CAIRO - 16 June 2017: Egypt’s national boxing team flew to Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo Friday to compete in the African Boxing Championships (AFBC), held June 17-25, which qualify to the World Boxing Championships.

The team's objective is to qualify for the World Boxing Championships scheduled for September in Hamburg, Germany. The first four boxers in every weight group of the African Championships will qualify for the World Championship.

Egypt’s team for the AFBC consists of five competitors: Hesham Abdel Aal Yehia (60 kg), Islam El Gendy (64kg), Walid Saad (69kg), Hossam Bakr Abden (75kg) and Yousri Rizk (91kg).

Abdel Rahman Oraby will miss the tournament because of an injury, but Abden, winner of the bronze medal in the 2015 World Championships, is rejoining the team after reversing a decision to retire.
