CAIRO – 29 November 2019: Arsenal announced on Friday that the club has sacked head coach Unai Emery after the club suffered a poor start of the season.
"Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand.” Arsenal director Josh Kroenke said on Friday.
Arsenal lost 2-1 to German side, Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night at Europa League in a half-empty stadium.
The fans lost patience on their Spanish manager and they were seen holding 'Emery Out' posters during the game.
Kroenke added “We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success."
Emery assistant and former Arsenal player, Freddie Ljungberg, will take charge of the team until the club reach an agreement with a permanent manager.
Reports linked Arsenal with former Juventus manager, Massimiliano Allegri, to be the club new manager.
Arsenal face Norwich City on Sunday at the Premier League and Ljungberg hopes to lead the team to their first victory at the league since their 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on 6 October.
Arsenal are 8th at the league with 18 points, 19 points behind the league leaders, Liverpool.
