Egypt's Olympic team came close to fulfilling the dream of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics after securing a passage to the semi-finals of the U-23 African Cup of Nations by beating Ghana 3-2.

The Pharaohs scored their second win in the tournament, after snatching three points in the opening match by beating Mali 1-0.

Shawki Gharib's men raised their tally to 6 points at the top of Group A, two points ahead of runners-up Cameroon before their match in the third match.

The Pharaohs scored the first through Mostafa Mohamed in the 17th minute, Ramadan Sobhi in the 82nd minute and Ahmed Yasser Rayyan in the 88th minute.

Ghana's Yao Yabo scored in the sixth minute and Samuel Obeng in the 46th minute.

After the loss, Ghana had one point in the fourth place before facing Mali, who have already lost their hopes of qualifying from this stage.

Ghana need to beat Mali with Egypt's victory over Cameroon, in order to maintain their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals and competing for the Olympic qualification card.
