CAIRO – 1 November 2019: World No.4 Karim Abdel Gawad achieved Egyptian Squash Open title after defeating World No.1 Ali Farag on Friday night at an all-Egyptian line-up final.

Abdel Gawad dominated the game from the start and secured the title after winning three straight sets 11-6, 11-8 and 11-8 respectively.

“It is a great honour to win the Egyptian Squash Open title twice in front of the Egyptian fans. I am so happy with my performance during the tournament. It is very hard to defeat the World No.1 3-0.” Karim Abdel Gawad said after the game.

This game was a repeat to the competition’s final in 2016 when both players met in front of the Pyramids, with Gawad taking the victory.

Abdel Gawad added “It was a tough game against Ali Farag and I wish him the best for the upcoming events.”

Egypt hosted the tournament on the sidelines of the PSA Women’s World Championship.

Around 110 players, 64 women and 48 men, from 22 countries participated in the competition.
