Egypt to represent Africa in World Judo Championship

CAIRO – 14 June 2017: The International Judo Federation has picked Egypt to represent the continent of Africa in the upcoming World Judo Championship, the federation said in official correspondence received Tuesday by the Egyptian Judo, Aikido and Sumo Federation.

The worldwide competition, slated for August 28 to September 3 in Hungary, is comprised of eight teams, each representing its respective continent and all competing for the title.

Egypt’s judo players asserted themselves as champions with Mohamed Abdelall’s worldwide ranking of 14 and recently taking first place in the African Championships Seniors in both 2016 and 2017, according to the official International Judo Federation website. Other accomplishments include Islam El Shehaby, who nailed a silver medal in the 2016 Grand Prix, and champion Ramadan Darwish, who placed seventh in the 2016 Rio Olympics Games
