CAIRO – 29 August 2019 : Egyptian champion, Sara Ahmed, adds three gold medals to Egypt’s collection in the weightlifting competition at 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco.
Sara won the three medals after she lifted 105kg in the snatch, 133kg clean and jerk and 238kg total in Women’s 76 Kg class.
Egypt maintained the top spot with 188 medals, including 63 gold, 76 silver and 49 bronze medals.
Sara, born in Ismailia to a weightlifting champion, who passed the passion for the game to her, started competing in international tournaments in 2012.
She clinched a gold medal in the 63 kg division at her first major tournament; Junior African Championships in Tunisia when she was 14.
This gold medal opened the gates of success to the champion who won the gold medal of the 2012 Youth African Championships, 2015 World Junior Championships, 2013 and 2015 World Youth Championships, 2015 African Games and 2014 Youth Olympics.
The Mediterranean Games occupies a special place in Sara’s heart as she first participated in senior level competitions in 2013 in Mersin, Turkey and she was competing in the 63 kg class.
Sara, 20, is the first female Egyptian to be presented a medal on the podium when she won the bronze medal in the 69kg class at 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
The entire nation is behind Sara to repeat her 2016 achievement at 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
