CAIRO_7 July 2019: Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida sacked the Egyptian national team coaching staff on the early hours of Sunday.

Abo Rida, as well as many board members, resigned from their position.

These decisions came after the national team's shocking loss to South Africa on Saturday night at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.

The Egyptian players let down the fans who packed the Cairo Stadium to support the team.

The coaching staff, led by Mexican manager Javier Aguirre, were appointed in 2018 to lead the national team towards achieving the AFCON title.

Egyptian fans blamed the manager after the early exit as he failed to manage the game.
For the second time in history, Egypt lost the title while hosting the tournament.

Egypt lost the title in 1974 at home after losing to DR Congo, formerly known as Zaire, at the semi-finals.

Egyptian authorities will launch a probe into the Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) financial and administrative violations and irregularities, senior officials told Egypt Today on early Sunday.
