Egypt are favorites to win the title, Nigeria manager

CAIRO – 16 June 2019: Nigeria national team manager, Gernat Rohr, does not see his team as favorites to win the 2019 African Cup of Nations title.

Rohr believes that the hosts, Egypt, are favorites to win the prestigious title at home.

“We are not the favorites to win it, the favorite is Egypt at home then the team number one in Africa is Senegal, then Tunisia,” Rohr said on Sunday.

Nigeria players hope to win their nation’s fourth title in the competition after 1980 at home, 1994 in Tunisia and 2013 in South Africa.

Rohr added “We are number three in the rankings officially so we should go until the semi-final, now we focus on the first match against Burundi. All our focus is on this match then we will see how it can go on. Of course, we have to come out of this group.”

Rohr managed the Super Eagles from 2016 and he led the team to reach 2018 FIFA World Cup where they were knocked out from the first round.

Nigeria plays in an easy Group alongside Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi.
