CAIRO – 6 June 2019: Liverpool announced on Tuesday the departure of the team players, Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno, upon the expiry of their current contracts.
The club thanked both players for their contributions since they joined the club.
Sturridge joined the club in 2013 from Chelsea and he established himself quickly as the team starting striker and played a massive role in the team’s battle to win the League in 2014 which they lost to Manchester City.
Sturridge’s role with team was affected by the serious injuries he suffered and lost his position to Roberto Firmino.
While Moreno joined the team from Sevilla in 2014 but failed to earn a starting position at the club especially after the arrival of Andrew Robertson from Hull City in 2017.
“They were here when I arrived as manager and during that period they - as much as anyone - helped to establish us as a team that would be heading in the right direction. Without them we wouldn’t be the team and club we are in this moment.” The team manager, jurgen Klopp, said on Tuesday.
Both players left the club after achieving the UEFA Champions League title on Saturday against Tottenham Hotspur.
